Church Street Gems: The Showroom

One of the first East End galleries in London, The Showroom is marking twenty years as a publicly funded venue with ambitious initiatives. Having outgrown their Bonner Road site, they have moved their programme of commissions, talks, events and seminars to Church Street, with the many benefits being their proximity to theLisson Gallery and Church Street Market.

As well as providing a flexible gallery for artist projects, the move gives The Showroom the opportunity to realise a new outreach programme aimed at young people in Church Street.

The 3,000 square foot building at Penfold Street is being reconfigured by Berlin-based architects ifau + Jesko Fezer in collaboration with London’s Working Architecture Group to provide a dynamic flexible space for The Showrooms' long-term growth.

The new space will open in September 2009 with A Long Time Between Suns, the second installment of the first solo exhibition in London by the Otolith Group, organised in collaboration with Gasworks.

Leading up to their re-opening, The Showroom will continue programming a series of ad-hoc events and seminars in the neighbourhood over the summer and full details will be posted on this web site.
